Environmental, Zoning & Land Use

We help clients deal with the impact that environmental regulation has on their operations and transactions. Our environmental attorneys regularly deal with matters involving: contaminated properties; wastewater discharge; air emissions; wetlands; waterfront development; the management and disposal of hazardous waste; zoning; and environmental and historic impact reviews. We resolve environmental issues arising in acquisitions and financings, and represent clients in environmental/land use permitting, administrative enforcement matters and litigation.

Representative Client Work

• Played an extensive role in a variety of major Boston waterfront development projects, as well as in the Boston Harbor water pollution litigation
• Represented major REIT in securing change in zoning of former junkyard. Our attorneys secured needed zoning relief and oversaw the creation of a childcare facility
• Counseled client on permitting and regulatory requirements for the development of a 420 room hotel, two office buildings in excess of one million square feet, and a 2,300 space garage on historic filled tidelands in adjacant to Boston Harbor
• Counseled real estate client under investigation by lending bank in relation to zoning compliance. Our attorneys worked with local government officials to secure timely notification of compliance approval, allowing our client to move forward with a major acquisition
