Kevin M. Colmey

Partner

Kevin M. Colmey is a partner in the Litigation Department of Sullivan & Worcester's Boston office. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation including professional liability and malpractice-related cases, and matters before the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, the CFA Institute and other administrative bodies. Mr. Colmey has extensive litigation experience in federal and state courts, and has represented clients in connection with a broad range of civil and criminal claims, including professional malpractice, negligence, unfair competition and claims under the federal securities laws. Mr. Colmey has also successfully represented insurers and insureds in coverage disputes arising under D&O and other insurance policies.

Representative Client Work

  • Successfully argued for the dismissal of a complex breach of contract action against a Texas-based retail store
  • Obtained closure, without disciplinary action, of several complaints submitted to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers
  • Successfully defended several financial analysts and portfolio managers in proceedings before the CFA Institute
  • Obtained the dismissal of a federal civil rights action against a media company in New York
  • Obtained the dismissal of a class action lawsuit under the Securities Act and Securities Exchange Act in New York
  • Successfully argued a workers’ compensation appeal before the Virginia Court of Appeals on behalf of victims of 9/11
  • Obtained the reversal of a $12 million insurance coverage award from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
  • Successfully represented a father seeking the return of his six year old son to Canada under The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction
  • Obtained the dismissal of several products liability and related claims on behalf of a licensing company in Massachusetts
