Singal and Summit on Real World Practice

Civil trial skills hands-on workshop (MCLE)
September 25-27, 2008

Paul Summit, a litigation partner and former federal prosecutor, served as co-chair and presenter at this civil trial skills hands-on workshop. Litigation partners Ira Gross, Barry Pollack and Larry Varn participated as faculty members in a course that will made you part of a team of trial lawyers in a real case, taking you through the case from the first meeting with the client through closing argument.

Attendees learned:

  • How to prepare and organize a case for trial
  • How to make the strategic decisions that will help you win the case
  • How to craft and implement a persuasive and compelling theme that maximizes the strengths and minimizes the weaknesses of your case
  • How to make a persuasive opening statement that will capture the jury's attention at the outset of the case and influence them in your client's favor
  • How to conduct crisp, effective direct examinations that incorporate your theme
  • How to control the witness and reinforce your theme with leading questions on cross-examination
  • How to make a compelling and dynamic closing argument that presents the facts consistently with your theme
  • How trying a case can be a blast
