New England Employee Benefits Council
David A. Guadagnoli presented at this program designed for employers and consultants looking to expand their understanding of the various laws that apply to welfare benefit arrangements and the ever-growing list of required disclosures for them. Mr. Guadagnoli began with an overview explanation of welfare arrangements are subject to ERISA and what exactly that means in terms of required plan documents, with attention to recent regulatory developments. He then addressed Form 5500 issues for welfare plans (including what to look for in reviewing the return and simplified filing approaches) and the wealth of notices required under an alphabet soup of federal laws, including the ACA and HIPAA.
Covered topics included:
- What plans are subject to ERISA, and what must and should be included in a plan document, SPD, SMM and SAR
- What is required in a Form 5500 filing for a welfare plan
- Managing the notice tsunami
- A primer on testing and employer aggregation issues
