S&W Tax Partner David Nagle Appointed to Massachusetts Department of Revenue Advisory Council
Boston, MA – January 16, 2013 – Sullivan & Worcester LLP is pleased to announce that David J. Nagle, a tax partner in Boston, has been appointed to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Advisory Council.
The DOR Advisory Council is the centerpiece of the agency’s “DOR 360” campaign to expand outreach to DOR customers and embolden citizens and business participation in shaping tax administration. The 16-member group will engage tax practitioners, litigators, auditors, corporate and small business leaders, minority advocates and women’s and other business associations across the state to bring different perspectives, ideas and issues to DOR on changing tax policies and practices and serve as a sounding board for DOR initiatives.
Mr. Nagle’s practice involves both transactional tax planning and representing taxpayers in disputes before the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. He has also represented clients in a broad range of income, sales and use and other tax matters before the United States Tax Court, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue’s Office of Appeals. He currently serves on the Boston Bar Association’s Tax Section Steering Committee and is a past Co-chair of the BBA’s Tax Section and State and Local Tax Committee.
“We are proud of David for being appointed to the DOR Advisory Council,” said Joel R. Carpenter, co-managing partner of Sullivan & Worcester. “David’s perspective on state tax issues will prove invaluable to the Council at a time when tax policies have never been more important to the well-being of the state and its economy. David follows the examples of both Ameek Ashok Ponda, S&W’s director of the Tax Department, in his role on the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council, and Frederic G. Corneel, the founder of S&W’s Tax Department, for serving on the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group, the predecessor body to IRSAC. Our tax department members are committed to improving our taxation system and serving the needs of our clients.”
