Sullivan & Worcester LLP Receives Top Rankings in Six Categories in the 2011 Edition of The Legal 500 United States
Boston, MA – June 15, 2011 – The Legal 500 United States ranked Sullivan & Worcester in six categories in its 2011 edition, two more categories than in the 2010 edition, including:
- Finance: Structured Finance
- Investment Fund Formation and Management: Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
- Mergers, Acquisitions and Buyouts: M&A: Middle-Market (Sub-$500m)
- Real Estate and Construction: Real Estate (new category)
- Tax: Domestic Tax: East Coast
- Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation (new category)
In the Finance category, the Securitization Group is commended for its ability “on a full mix of transactions and always perform well on any type.” In Boston, Duncan O'Brien offers “depth of legal knowledge across wide variety of asset classes,” Alexander Notopoulos “has the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers,” and New York-based George Lindsay “always get the job done quickly and correctly.”
The Legal 500 ranked the REIT practice in Tier 3 and said that the group “carries a significant profile on the back of its excellent legal knowledge’. . . . The practice represents four of the largest public REITs – with an aggregate market capitalization of $8.5bn – on a nearly exclusive basis.” In addition to the REIT practice, S&W’s Real Estate Group was ranked for the first time. Co-leaders Warren Heilbronner and Hugh Finnegan were mentioned and Partner John Balboni was praised as “very helpful, both as a legal mind and as a sounding board for deals.”

Other recommended lawyers include Christopher Curtis, for general business taxation and wealth planning, and Richard Jones for state tax advice and controversy.
Ranked for the first time in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation category, Boston-based David Guadagnoli provides “excellent response times, and truly helps the client understand the intricate details of complex legal issues.”
