"S&W Dream Team" Sets Fundraising Record for Fourth Year in a Row

S&W Press Release
December 17, 2009

Boston, MA – December 17, 2009 – Sullivan & Worcester LLP is proud to announce that they have won the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer "Law Firm Challenge" for the fourth year in a row. Making Strides is the nation’s oldest and largest one-day breast cancer fundraiser, and is the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) signature event during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

According to ACS, the 2009 fundraising team from Sullivan & Worcester, the “S&W Dream Team,” raised more than $40,000 to support ACS’s programs of breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. Within the last nine years, the firm has raised more than $217,000 for ACS.

“I am tremendously proud of the people of our firm for their dedication and drive in supporting the American Cancer Society,” said S&W co-managing partner William Curry. “Year after year, our attorneys, staff and their families have teamed together and devised creative fundraising approaches to fight breast cancer. It’s gratifying to see the amount of financial support ACS has received from the entire community and it’s especially rewarding for our firm, with many personal ties to breast cancer, to know that we have made a difference in the lives of thousands of people impacted by breast cancer.”

Implemented in 2000 by ACS, the Law Firm Challenge is a friendly competition among local law firms that participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, held annually in October. This year, the participating firms collectively raised more than $109,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

The S&W Dream Team’s co-captains, Paralegal Chris Bullock and Administrative Assistant Patti Flannery, organized and spearheaded a variety of fundraising activities, including “pizza wars” among the firm’s floors, “Jeans Fridays” for the month of October, raffles, a bake sale and craft fair, as well as an on-line silent auction. They also assembled a large team for the Making Strides Walk, held in October.

Boston hosts one of more than 100 Making Strides events held throughout the nation. 2009 marked the event’s 17th anniversary.
