Sullivan & Worcester Hosts The Boston Lawyers GroupBLG to help firm maximize its diversity initiativesPress Release, February 26, 2008 BOSTON, MA – Sullivan & Worcester LLP announced today that the leadership team of the Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) has established an office at the firm’s Boston headquarters. BLG supports the efforts of its members to recruit, develop, advance and retain attorneys of color. Executive director Carolyn Golden Hebsgaard, program director Sonia Bryan and program coordinator Brittany Morrison will maintain their offices at Sullivan & Worcester for the next two years. Sullivan & Worcester is a founding member of the BLG, which began in 1986 as a consortium of Boston law firms dedicated to promoting diversity in Boston's legal community. Today, its membership has grown to more than 50 prominent legal organizations including such public sector entities as the City of Boston’s Corporation Counsel, The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office and the United States Attorney's Office. The BLG has also extended its reach to corporate legal departments, including those of Fidelity Investments and John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. “We are looking forward to working with BLG members and the law school community to maximize our ongoing diversity initiatives,” said Sullivan & Worcester’s co-managing partner Joel Carpenter. “Increasing the presence of diverse cultures and experiences strengthens our firm, and we consider it a top priority.” The BLG serves as a resource to its members by hosting forums, roundtable discussions, educational programs and job fairs, all geared towards promoting diversity within Boston’s legal community. “It is our strong belief that an increase in the number of attorneys of color will encourage public confidence in the judicial system and respect for the law,” said Carolyn Golden Hebsgaard, BLG’s executive director. “With the challenges we face in today’s global economy a more representative professional legal community is not just a desire, it’s a necessity.” #### Contact:
