Sullivan & Worcester Announces New Partners, Enhancing Firm's Litigation and Real Estate Practices

Press Release, February 2, 2007

Boston, MA - Sullivan & Worcester LLP, a leading corporate law firm with offices in Boston, New York and Washington, DC, today announced that Pamela Smith Holleman and Karen M. Kozlowski have been named partner in the firm’s litigation and real estate practices respectively.  These elections reflect the firm’s continued commitment to meeting client needs by strengthening key practice areas.

"Both of these fine lawyers have made outstanding contributions to the firm as associates and we are pleased and proud to welcome them to Sullivan & Worcester’s partnership," commented co-managing partner, Joel Carpenter. “We see a great future for them at the firm as we continue to grow these long-standing practices.”

Pamela Smith Holleman is now a partner in the Bankruptcy Practice Group and Litigation Department based in our Boston office. Ms. Holleman’s practice is focused in the areas of business bankruptcy and commercial litigation. She has counseled clients in the energy sector, including, among others: the independent system operator for the New England electric grid; real estate investment trusts; landlords; trade creditors and creditors’ committees; and purchasers of assets in bankruptcy sales. Her litigation practice is focused on complex commercial disputes in federal and state courts. Previously, Ms. Holleman served as Group Manager, Ingersoll-Rand Company, a leading diversified industrial company, managing the contracting activities of the company's Process Systems Group worldwide. She received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Rockford College, a M.A. from the University of Chicago, a M.B.A. from New York University, and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School. She is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts (1998), the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts (1999), the First Circuit Court of Appeals (1999), and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals (2006), and has appeared in bankruptcy courts across the country.

“Being a partner enhances my visibility within the firm and with our current and prospective clients,” says Holleman.  “Unlike larger firms where you often lose autonomy and opportunities are limited, Sullivan and Worcester has evolved to embrace growth and flexibility.  “It’s an entrepreneurial environment with collegial support and I believe that I have found my ideal platform here.”

Karen Kozlowski is now a partner in the Real Estate Department, based in the firm’s New York office. Her practice is focused in the areas of commercial real estate financing, defeasance and other borrower-related transactions, leasing, acquisition/sales, and construction matters, with a particular expertise in representing foreign banks on commercial real estate lending transactions. Her clients include finance companies, local, national and international institutional lenders, bridge lenders, mezzanine lenders, developers and other institutional investors. She earned a B.A., cum laude, from Stonehill College in 1992, and received her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1995. She served as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey from 1996-1998.  Ms. Kozlowski is admitted to the bar in New York (2002) and New Jersey (1995).

“Sullivan and Worcester has a strong commitment to diversity, especially when promoting women in the firm, “ says Kozlowski. “As Partner, I hope to not only further develop our real estate lending practice, but also serve as a mentor to the many female associates within the firm.  The hands-on approach that our senior partners provide to the firm’s clients and staff was one of the reasons I chose to advance my career here.”
